Amsterdam, The Netherlands, July 2nd 2024
Both Amsterdam gigs got announced on November 21st. The Melkweg (the venue) posted it on Facebook. Keith had already informed us about this in Birmingham. I’m so excited. Thanks for coming to Amsterdam for 2 days!! And thanks Tim for helping me out.
I got a message from Strange days indeed, but I was already updating the events page on here. Mark, Ozzy and Eric will join me. Aoife, Matthew, Anya, Strange days indeed, Virina, Barbara, Martine, Frederic and their son Thomas are all going.
In the last couple of weeks I have been pimping my huge Streets lighter. I’ve added golden and black diamonds on it. Now it looks like Mike’s lighter, only much bigger, and much cheaper.
At 9:30 I was supposed to pick Aoife up from the airport. But her plane was delayed. Finally at 10:30 I could pick her up. We go to my house. In the meantime Ozzy has arrived as wel. I show her my “Streets museum”.
At 11:30 we were going to take the train from Hillegom to Schiphol to pick Matthew and Anya up. But as Aoife was late, we couldn’t make that train. We will meet up in Amsterdam. We’ll have a drink first at my house.
While Aoife, Ozzy and I are on our way to Amsterdam I got a text from Matthew that he forgot his passport on the plane. He discovered that while he was on the shuttle bus from the airplane to the main hall. It was a nightmare for him to get it back.
Ozzy and I will go to my uncle’s house to drop our stuff off and pick up the key. We can stay at his house. Bless him!! Back in 2008 we were staying there as well. Aoife is going to her hotel. We meet up later, when we get back in to town. Mark and Eric will arrive later. They have to work first.
While we were having a chat with my uncle, Aoife rang. She was a bit lost. Ozzy and I thanked my uncle. We got the key to his house (for tonight after the gig) and we got changed. Ready for the night. We got on the tram and tried to find Aoife, but when we arrived at Leidseplein, she had find her hotel.
Ozzy and I will find a seat on a terrace in the sun. We could use a drink. Then it’s time to get something to eat. We get some food at FEBO.
It’s the time of the year again for the European Cup. Holland became 3rd in the group, thats not very good, but because of the new rules they are still through to the next round. They have to play against Romania today. I guess they still have a chance. The bookmakers think that they even have the biggest chance to win the European cup. I don’t agree.
After the food Ozzy and I went to Dan Murphy’s, the Irish pub next to the venue. They will show the football here. I also got a message from Matthew that he got his passport back. WOOHOO!!! They had been waiting 5,5 hours for that. They must be exhausted.
The football starts at 6 pm. If there is extra time, it will clash with the gig. De Melkweg won’t be showing the game. Won’t be a problem for me, Ozzy or Eric, but Mark would like to see the game.
Mark got a train early. He joined us. Later Eric arrived so him and Mark got some food. Aoife came over and so did Strange days indeed. We were watching the football. At half time Ozzy and I picked up the tickets. I got a +5. Thanks so much Tim 🙏 you are amazing.
Cassell came over for a chat. He told us that if there would be extra time or penalty’s the gig would be postponed. Matthew arrives as well.
Aoife, Matthew, Ozzy and I go to the venue. Looks like Holland is winning. It’s 2-0 for Holland. And only 10 minutes to go. Mark, Eric and Strange days indeed will finish watching the football. Ozzy and I watch the rest of the game on the phone inside the venue. Holland won with 3-0. The gig can start on time. They don’t have to compete with the football. Then Mark and the other boys joined us.
Martine, Frederic and their son Thomas are here as well. They are on the balcony. Virina and Barbara are here, but we haven’t seen them (yet).
At 20:30 it’s time for the Streets. Omg such a good gig. I had a lot of fun. Everyone waved, or smiled when they saw me. Mark and Eric even joined the mosh pit.
Art gave me the setlist. Thanks so much!!! Was good to see Tim as well. Haven’t seen him for ages.
When we left the venue we saw Kevin and Gabe. We said hello. I gave Gabriel my “juich cape”. We will meet up later. Matthew is going back to Anya. She was really tired after trying to get Matthew’s passport back.
Martine and her son and husband are going back to their hotel. Thomas is only 8 (same age as my daughter Roos), he needs to go to bed. He just had his first Streets gig. He loved it.
Aoife, Mark, Eric, Strange days indeed, Ozzy and I are sitting on a terrace of Dan Murphy’s for a drink. Aoife goes back to the hotel. She has a huge headache. She hopes to be back later. Mark and Eric are going to catch the train. Mark has work in the morning.
Then I spot Wayne, we go say hello. Everyone is here. Well almost everyone. We have a chat. And a few drinks.
after a while Strange says indeed is going to get the last metro and tram to get home. We’ll see him tomorrow. While we have a chat with Cassell, Virina and Barbara found us. They join us. It’s good to see them again. It’s been a while. Last time we saw Virina was Pukkelpop 2019. Cass gave me rum. Euw… disgusting! I prefer a Guinness thanks. but I still finish the disgusting rum.
The band and crew leave at 2 ish. When we finish our drinks Virina and Barbara go to their hotel. Ozzy and I go back to Febo to get some more food. Then we walk to my uncle’s house. Its a 30 minute walk.
It’s 4am good night.
