The Streets in London 2024

London, England, October 5th 2024

After Lowlands, we were like… Do we really have to wait until November, before we can see them again? Why not go to the Drumsheds in London in October? Ok, Let’s do this. We booked the flight and hotel on August 24th.

Ozzy comes over on Friday already. He has his own room, according to my daughter Roos. That’s easy. It’s a Streets room. It has a display with loads of Items I collected at their gigs. But there are also posters on the wall. The photo albums from all the gig’s we’ve been to. Ozzy is the only one who sleeps comfortable in that room LOL

We wake up at 5:30. So early!! So cold!! But we have a flight to catch. After a short night… we had 4 hours sleep, cos we were watching “Hollands got talent”. We wake up. We brushed our teeth, we got dressed, I said goodbye to Mark and Roos. And off we go to Getsewoud with Ozzy’s car. We park near the bus stop.

Roos needs to go horse riding today.

There we got the bus to the airport. It’s only 20 minutes from here. We got an email from EasyJet that it can be very busy. They advised us to get there 3 hours early. We only have hand luggage, as we’re only going for 1 night. We didn’t think it would be that necessary. Within 5 minutes we’re through the security. We can chill and relax. We need some coffee first, so Starbucks it is. We video call with Roos.

We should have left at 8:45, but we’re not going to make it. The plane isn’t here yet. It takes a while for the plane finally arrives. People have to get out first. But then it goes pretty smoothly. I brought my headphones. I can listen to the ebook of Harry Potter on the flight. We left a little later then expected, but we still arrive earlier then planned.

At Luton we take the train to the center. Only half an hour by train. We look for a place where we can have some breakfast. They are quick with our food, but by the time we get our drinks, we finished our food already and the drinks are cold. I guess the drinks were ready for a while, but no one brought it to our table. I ordered a peppermint tea, but they didn’t have it. Ok a breakfast tea then, but they tried to charge us for both. Oh boy. Guess it was a little busy…

We are pretty early, we have some time to kill. We take the metro to Covent Garden. We walk from here to Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus to Green park. Here we take the metro to Tottenham. And from here we take the train to Meridian. This train station is right in front of the venue.

Drumsheds is an old Ikea building. It’s still blue. They only took the yellow letters off. We also see our hotel. But we’re still early. We’re going to check where the entrance is, and the guest list ticket pick up.

It’s still early we go to Tesco’s. I didn’t find something for Roos, so I buy her some Cadbury’s. It’s nearly 2 pm, still early, but we’re going to have a try at the hotel. Who knows….

For £10,- we can have an early check in. We’d like that. We can charge our phones. Have a rest. Have a shower. Ozzy takes a nap.

At 4 we want to go to the restaurant of the hotel for dinner, I know it’s a little early, but we want to be ready to go to the venue. But the restaurant is closed. The oven is broken. The guy from the hotel can make us pizza or a little snack which doesn’t require an oven. Nevermind, we go to the venue and have some food there.

Roos and Mark go to the dunes for a lovely walk. They brought our neighbour Daan as well.

When we arrive at the entrance, we have to turn left to the box office. We can collect our wristbands there. Thanks so much Jo for sorting us. We got backstage. That’s access to a special area with cleaner toilets.

Food is outside. We both get a burger and some chips. We order a beer. It should be 14 pounds for 2 pints, but if Ozzy pays with cash, he can make it cheaper. £5,- is enough. Not bad. Too bad the beer is not very nice. We go outside and enjoy the sun. We also make another videocall with Roos.

Then it’s time to wait. In the backstage area there are places to sit. 4 more hours before The Streets start.

There is a bit of confusion where we have access to or not. A lady told us that we don’t have access to the hospitality areas, fair enough… we didn’t book that. But we could watch from the viewing platform. But a security lady told us that we don’t have access on the viewing platform at all. Only in the backstage area. Seems fair tho. But the staff doesn’t really know it, it seems. Jo confirmed that the venue was a bit crazy.

We don’t really like Geeneus. Katy B should be on with him, but she is not. Maybe only a few songs. We go to the toilet and try to get to the front after that.  The sound is terrible as well. That doesn’t really help them either. She did join in the end. She was nice. We reached the barrier, but we want to move more to the middle.

2 girls next to us left, we moved a little more to the middle. Giggs was ok. Sound is terrible in here. But he was alright.

2 other girl left, we took our chance and moved more to the middle. DJ Ez is not bad either.  Except from the light effects. They are too bright. I get a headache.  Glad I took a paracetamol and ibuprofen before we left. 2 guys left, we moved more to the middle.

They finished a little late. There was a DJ playing, but after 2 songs he had to quit and leave, cos Olly, Art and others needed to get the stage ready for The Streets. Olly and Art waved at us.

At 9:30 it’s time for the Streets. Amazing!!! Mike pointed at us. So did Kevin.

I didn’t film the whole gig, only a few bits. I wanted to enjoy the gig. There was a couple who got engaged at the gig. Some fans were impressed with our Streets trainers.

After the gig, Olly got me the setlist.

Thank you so much!! He said that they would come to the backstage bar, so we went there. We see Wayne and Cassell. Then we see Gabriel and Max. We have a few chats, but they threw us out.

I send Olly a message to inform him and we go to Tescos, but you can’t buy a single drink, only 4. That is too much. We leave it. I only buy some chocolate. We go to the hotel. Ozzy gets a coke from the vending machine. I will have a cup of tea. After the crisps, I upload the blog. And time for bed.

Sunday October 6th

We were home early last night. After finishing the blog and a cup of tea, we had a good night sleep.

I wake up at 6:30. That’s 7:30 in Holland. I can’t sleep anymore. I update Polarsteps, check some websites. At 8:30 my alarm goes off. Time for Ozzy to wake up. We go downstairs for breakfast. Eggs on toast, a croissant, bacon and sausage. A cup of tea and orange jus.

We’re early. First train goes at 11ish. We have to wait. We’ll wait in the room.

Roos has her horse riding competition next week. I explained Ozzy what she has to do. He will come over to watch her. Roos is helping small children with horse riding at the stables this morning. She gets tokens for doing that. With enough tokens she gets a free riding lesson. And it’s extra, besides her regular lessons.

After our journey by train and metro we arrive at the airport. Security goes smoothly again. 2 hours before we can board. We get a Starbucks. We’re pretty tired. We need to walk.

Let’s check the Lego store. Too expensive, but such a cool store. We walk to BK. I can charge my phone there. I’d like to listen to the ebook of Harry Potter on the plane. We get a drink. Ozzy gets some chips.

We go to the toilet, We check some shops. At 3 we can go to gate 10. Its a short walk. But it goes smoothly.

We land early, but we have to taxi for 15 minutes. So we arrive at the main hall at the original time.  Security goes pretty quick. But when we arrive outside, we see that it’s very busy on the road, all the busses we need, are delayed. We have been waiting for an hour. Then 4 busses arrived at the same time.  I’m so cold.

At 7:30 we arrive at home finally. Night all!! Going to give Mark and Roos a big hug.

Roos became 1st with her horse riding competition with 229 points! Well done sweetheart!!!
