The Streets in Glasgow 2024 supporting Kasabian

Glasgow, Scotland, November 9th 2024

Happy birthday Ozzy. The Streets are supporting Kasabian for a few shows. They are in Glasgow today. Jo helped us. Thanks so much!!! I’m so proud to see the boys at a big Arena!!! Going to see Rob Harvey again as well.

We booked the hotel and flight on August 18th, after we got the confirmation from Jo that she could help us. There is no flight on Saturday with Easy Jet, so we booked KLM to Glasgow. but there is a return flight with Easy Jet, so we booked that one for the return. We’re staying in the Premier inn again. We love that hotel, ever since Mike booked one for us at one of the Tonga parties.

Mark and Roos will drop us off at the airport. An extra service for Ozzy’s birthday. 😉

My alarm goes at 6:30. Mark and Roos stay in bed a little longer. I get dressed and I get freshen up. Roos puts on her Stitch onesie. I get her hair done. Mark will bring her to her horse riding lessons later.

At 7 we get in the car and we’re on our way to the airport. Roos doesn’t want to say goodbye. She doesn’t want to go to the airport. But she stays strong. She looks happy, when we wave them goodbye after our drop off. It’s busier then last month, but then again, we’re a little later then last month. Security still goes smoothly.

We want to go to Starbucks, but there is a very long queue. We go to Mac Donald’s instead. We get a Mc Mufffin with bacon and egg and a coffee instead.

Then it’s time to go to the toilet and to the gate. We have to wait till our zone (5) gets announced. When we get on the plane I tell the cabin attendant that’s it’s Ozzy’s birthday. She had already seen that, she told me. This doesn’t mean they will do something for him. But they know.

We have to wait a little. Cos the plane is fully booked. A lot of people still need to find their seat. But we leave just after 9:30. Ozzy takes a nap, well…. he tries.. I listen to Harry Potter.

Halfway the flight, Ozzy gets a small bottle of champagne. And cheese sticks. Cheers! To your birthday and The Streets. Happy birthday!! 🥳

We’re looking for the bus that brings us to the centre, for our hotel. When we arrive we can have an early check in for only £10,-. Awesome we can already go to the room. We don’t have to wait till 3pm. We can charge our phones. Chill for a bit. Heat up.

The bar of the hotel will be closed by the time we get back to the hotel. I guess we’d better buy something for in the room later. Good idea Ozzy. There is a Tesco’s on the square in front of our hotel. We walk through the winter fest, a small Christmas market. That’s also on the square. We get a crêpe. Then it’s time to go to Tesco’s, to get something for in the room tonight but also loads of chocolate. We wanted to have dinner at Nando’s, this is also at the square, but we want to have the tickets too… Priorities…..

At 1 we walk towards the venue. It’s a lovely walk along the water. It’s cold, but lovely. The doors are still closed, when we arrive after 30 minutes. Some guy from the venue comes outside to help us. The box office is in the building across the venue. We need to go there to collect our tickets, but it’s closed still. It will open at 3. We have some time to kill. We’ll get a hot chocolate. It’s so cold outside. Then we’ll walk around. There is an elevated path to cross the train station. We saw the tourbus. But it’s all very quiet there. But then again it’s very cold.

When the box office opens, they don’t have the guest list yet. Usually between 6 and 6:30 they tell us. But the doors open at 6:30. I hope this crowd is like the Irish. Over there they slowly arrive at the venue at the moment the doors open. They don’t queue. So I hope they don’t do that here either. In Ireland they first go to the bar, I hope these people are the same. Otherwise it will be a struggle to get to the front.

But so far, it’s still very quiet outside. We’ll go to the bar and wait here for a few hours. It’s very cold at the bar as well. We’ll walk around a bit. it’s a little warmer, a little more confortable when we’re on the move.

At 6 there is still no guest list yet at the box office. Oh no. I’m worried we might not get to the front. Another couple is also waiting for the guest list. They know someone. This person is getting someone to pick the list up. It’s nearly 6:30 by now. Finally they have the list. They have to process the list still. It takes a few minutes. When we get the tickets, we have seating tickets. Not what we expected, but still happy that we got help and that we get to see them. It’s a lot busier now. There are several queues for different entrances. We get sent to the one at the very left hand side.

When we get inside , we need to go to Door A. That is straight on. But this other couple told us to go to the service desk and try to get standing tickets. It is sold out, no more standing tickets available. Oh well… Seating it is then.

The security lets us through Door A and sends us inside and there we have to go right, to go up the stairs for our seats, but inside is no-one to check our tickets. We can walk towards the fence. We’re up front, but let’s be honest, we shouldn’t be here. We don’t have a front row wristband. I text Jo to thank her, but also explain that we’re doing something illegal LOL. She text me back saying that the tour manager is trying to do something for us. I get an sms saying to meet Oli. (Not Oliver). He has 2 front row wristbands for me. Omg thank you so much!!!! I’ve sent both Jo and Oli a message to thank them.

Oliver saw us when they got the stage ready. Good to see you guys the show was amazing. Thank you so much. I’m so proud of you. It’s amazing to see them in a big arena.

During Let’s push things forward, Kevin sees us and points at us, as he always does. Wayne saw me and said hello, and because of Wayne, Gabriel saw us and waved hello. During Troubled waters, when Mike sees us he gave me the fingers to the eyes.

Usually I’m not keen on support acts, The Streets are the best support act I’ve ever seen. Although Peter André for East 17 and Skin from Skunk Anansie for Robbie Williams were pretty good too. but this time I’m not keen on the main show. Kasabian is not my cup of tea. It’s good to see Rob Harvey again. But I’d rather go to the pub. I don’t really want to stay for the “after party”.

We get a drink and walk around the venue. At 10 the bars are closing. Something about the Scottish law they say, but that explains why everyone is missing half the show for a drink. We were just in time to get another drink. After us the waiting line closed. Let’s finish this drink while we’re watching Kasabian. So we can actually say if we liked it or not. We go to the actual seats that we have been given. Pretty good seats, to be honest. Decent to watch Kasabian. Wouldn’t have liked seeing the Streets from here tho. The music might not really be my thing, but they sure know how to put up a show. It was pretty good. I have to be honest,

When our drink is finished we walk back towards the hotel. We leave before everybody else leaves. It’s about half an hour walk. It’s very cold. I’m freezing. I’m not feeling too well. Next to our hotel is a bar. It’s still open. For one more hour. There is a DJ playing. The bar is full of locals. And it’s nice and warm inside. We can heat up a little. They are dancing. And they all look very happy and drunk. I’m not feeling to well. I won’t get warm. I’m shaking from being cold the whole time. While Ozzy is getting warm.

After our drink we go to the hotel. I’m still not feeling to well. I take a long and hot shower. It’s like a sauna in there. We can’t breath, by the time I finished my shower haha, but I feel slightly better. Time to put the blog online, while I drink my Pina colada. I can’t finish it. I throw it away.

November 10th

I wake up at 7. Why so early? I wake Ozzy up at 9:30, it’s nearly time for our breakfast. We booked that at 10. After breakfast we go back to the room. We have time to relax a little. Check out is at noon. No rush.

We walk towards the busstop. 2 busses didn’t show up. But it is Remembrance Day today. Maybe the busses have a different route because of that. We decided to walk towards  the next stop. Luckily this bus shows up. Only 15 minutes to the airport. When we arrive the luggage check goes smoothly. Time to chill and relax at Starbucks. I nearly fall asleep. Let’s walk around for a bit. I’m still not feeling to well. We sit down in a pub.

Soon the gate gets announced. It’s a short walk. Also boarding goes quickly. Some guys keep me updated about Ajax. When they stand up to queue, Mark continues to update me. 1-1 so far against Twente.  2-2 before we turned off our phones for the flight. Flight went smoothly as well. 2-2 was the result for today for Ajax.

Passport control is busy, but goes quicker then expected. When we get through, Mark and Roos are waiting for us. They said that they were waiting at Burger King, so we didn’t expect them at the exit, we walked towards BK, they run after us to surprise us. Was lovely to see them again. We decide to eat something at Grand Café.

When we finish our food we go home. Home sweet home.

No more plans this year.  Unless Ozzy wins the lottery, then we go to Dubai. Fortunately no Dubai for us… Ozzy didn’t win enough…. Only €28,- Euros. That’s not enough unfortunately. And Dubai got cancelled.
